We’re making our dream come true; we’re creating a homestead!
Goals
Our homestead promotes healing through sanctuary, permaculture, delicious food, immersion in nature, and connecting with grateful souls.
We’ve created this space for ourselves and to share with others.
We will use this homestead to:
Improve our wellbeing: physical, mental, and emotional
Reduce our dependence on complex systems, including food, energy, medical, financial, and security
Support others in their journey to heal and gain independence
Purchasing Property
We’re seeking to purchase property where we’ll create our home, grow our garden, and build community. On a whiteboard, we wrote down our criteria for a property that will help us achieve these goals.
The more critical attributes include:
- Affordability: no more than $350,000
- Ample space: at least two acres
- Functional: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
- Remoteness: away from traffic, space between neighbors
- Driving distance: no more than one hour drive to work (Dani works in Corpus Christi)
Nice-to-haves include:
- More space: 5+ acres
- Solidly constructed house
- Guest house(s)
- Pool and hot tub
- Green house (or other useful outbuildings)
- Near ocean or lake
- Surface water (pond, stream, lake, river)
We are using a weighted scoring method to evaluate each property. We have assigned a weight to each of our major evaluation criteria and each property we see will be graded on these criteria. Then, we simply multiply each criteria's score with its weight and add these together. The property with the highest overall score will likely be the best option for us.
